James Gilbert “Gib” Benson, 89, of Macon, IL, U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and retired in 1984 from Benson’s Disposal, peacefully passed away on Tuesday (Aug. 10, 2010) at Moweaqua Nursing and Retirement Center.
Memorial service will be 7:00 p.m. Friday (Aug. 13, 2010) at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Macon with visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family via e-mail at www.dawson-wikoff.com.
Gib was born on October 24, 1920 in Monticello, IL, the son of James G. and Bessie (Holland) Benson. He married Jessica M. Purdue on April 26, 1947 in Decatur, IL. His hobbies included fishing, frog gigging and hunting.
He is survived by his wife: Jessie Benson of Decatur, IL; children: Richard Benson of Decatur, IL, Dave (Gloria) Benson of Decatur, IL, Gilbert III “Gil” Benson of Macon, IL, Jackie (Gene) Crickman of Findlay, IL, Peggy (Doug) Ryder of Macon, IL and Patti (Mark) Brumleve of Decatur, IL; grandchildren: Carol, Scott, Karla, Shannon, Chad, Shelley, Brandy, Heath, Neil, Danny, Clint, Chet, Lena, Sarah, Shane and Rylie; twelve great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son: Danny Benson, granddaughter: Tammy Davenport, eight brothers and two sisters.
He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
